Digital marketing trends come and go. What works for one brand may not work for another. But if you’re looking to revamp your marketing strategy, consider building upon these 6 fundamental concepts that will work for any brand.
6 Digital Marketing Trends You Need to Know
1. Prioritize Authenticity
First and foremost, people are so over the hackers and frauds. Deceit is rampant, especially online. Most shoppers—online and in person—are on their toes, watching out for any signs of inauthenticity. Unfortunately, most of us have been duped at some point, and it doesn’t feel good.
So, in all of your marketing efforts, prioritize your customers’ privacy. Provide a quality experience, and be transparent about your product and who you are as a brand. Don’t give into false advertising temptation because you’ll lose customers for life—it’s not worth the risk. Be you, and sell what you do best, as authentically as possible. You’ll gain respect and customers simply by being the real deal.
2. Stay Relevant & Adapt
Staying relevant requires extra diligence. Digital marketing trends change in the blink of an eye thanks to livestreaming and instant media coverage (Instagram was ahead of the game on that one!). While you don’t (and probably shouldn’t) live on social media or livestreaming platforms, it’s good to check in now and then to see what people are talking about and how to best capture your audience’s attention.
When you know what’s on your customers’ minds and what topics or issues are relevant at the moment, you may be able to address those points in your own marketing strategy. Staying up-to-date allows you to meet your customers where they’re at. Marketing in 2022 requires brands to stay flexible and adapt quickly to market changes and trends—otherwise you’ll get left in the dust with the rest of the old news.
3. Feature Video Content
Have you heard that attention spans are getting shorter and shorter? That’s only partially true. If you catch your audience’s attention early with content they’re interested in, you’ll probably keep their attention for a bit. (On the other hand, irrelevant content means high bounce rate.)
So, in addition to staying authentic and relevant, you might consider popping some video or GIF content in to “reel them in” a bit before pitching your product. It’s not just eye candy though. Use your visual content to connect with your audience on a personal level. You might use it to evoke a sense of nostalgia, camaraderie, or empathy. Connect on a human level, and use your video content to capture their attention and provide a solution or product that would make their lives better. Demonstrate what makes your product different and why they need it.
4. Be Human
I’ve mentioned this a bit in the points above, but it’s so important that it deserves its own spotlight: strive to be as relational as possible. Take time to answer customer questions, provide unparalleled customer service, and provide a sense of community within your brand. Spend a large part of your marketing effort on communication and customer relations. Add a human aspect to your marketing. That’s a digital marketing trend that never goes away.
5. Consider Livestream Marketing
On that note, one way to make your brand more relatable is through livestreaming. It’s not for everyone, and I know some people are adamantly against it for various reasons: it doesn’t always seem professional; it’s giving into a fad; it takes too much time; etc.
But, platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and other livestreaming outlets are here to stay. That doesn’t mean that you need to crank out a video every day, but try to get in front of your clients or customers every now in then in a personable, relatable way via livestream.
6. Get Creative
And finally, while it is important to stay relevant, that doesn’t mean you have to follow the crowd. Have fun doing what you do best. If you’re a creative or marketing professional, think outside the box and find ways to set yourself apart from the rest. Play around with branding strategies, fresh content, and creative designs that will reach your audience in new ways.
