Today I had the honor of photographing a bakery fueled by passion. I went to Nutmeg Bakery to photograph their pandemic response. They’re making sure both the crew and customers are safe and happy.
Nutmeg Bakery’s owner, Drew, assured me that they fought third party delivery and takeout services forever. This bakery is a place that thrives on an in-person experience. Now that their livelihood depends on it, you can find them on these platforms to support this small business.
Easter Preparations
While I was there, the team was gearing up for Easter with take-home cookie kits. 1000 cookies to be exact. It’s a great way to support the bakery while enjoying an experience with your kids, significant other, or family members.
Nutmeg bakery is still serving up their amazing pastries and meals in takeout form, complete with curbside pickup. This adorable little place also had a general store/marketplace happening before the pandemic. It’s come in handy during this difficult time, as they’re able to sell items to customers that are harder to find in stores right now.
Instead of display cases being filled with beautiful desserts and goodies – they’re now storage for dry goods and measuring out orders for customers. They’re vacuum sealing high quality meats & cheeses, preparing meal kits, and family sized to go meals.
Drew expressed to me that he loves being able to come out and talk to customers and regulars during normal business time. Since that isn’t possible for the time being, he’s found a creative way to adapt. Nutmeg Bakery is creating take-home meal kits, and Drew includes a how-to video when you buy the box! It gives him the chance to give the customers his regular kindness and humor, while still being able to feed them. He was filming one during the day today of his burger dinner kit.
Pandemic Adjustments
Nutmeg Bakery prides themselves on customer service and incredible, fresh food. Drew’s hard work and passion has turned this space into an efficient production of his customers’ favorite foods to go, while still putting the love and care into every little aspect of this business. The adaptation is difficult for all in this industry, and especially for those that thrive on the experience and connection they provide their customers.
Nutmeg Bakery in San Diego is putting in the extra mile to make sure that all crew members and customers are safe, and that they continue to produce quality products for their loyal customers that want to support small businesses during this pandemic.
